Birthday Party #4

Finally, Sunday we had our first Birthday party for Fin.  We kept it a small affair with close friends.  The theme was balls and balls of rain poured down (the only freak rainstorm in months!).  I had a bubble machine, swimming pool of plastic play balls, ball toys and ball treats.  We served shimp, lobster and steak!  It was a huge hit!

Fin slept thru most of it... but here is what I was able to capture of the fun!

Boys Bonding part deux

Here is another photo of Ahmad bonding with the boys.  You can not tell but this was taken at 8am in the morning.  Fin woke early today and Ahmad took him outside to play.  By 8am he was ready for his first nap and nap they did!

Boys Talk

I love this picture.  It was cool, Kai was feeling better and I heard Ahmad ask him if he wanted to go outside and sit and drink together.  Kai of course had his milk cup; Ahmad is beer.  They pulled up chairs and cheers and then drank... Ahmad tried to engage Kai in some conversation.   

I quickly ran out to take this shot, I think I will try to do something similar every year, it was such a sweet and priceless moment!

Genetech Gives Back

We had our annual Company Picnic and this year Ahmad was here to join in the fun.  We took the boys to AT&T park where Genentech celebrates giving back to the community with a concert.  This year the acts were Colbie Coillat, Foo Fighters and Usher!

Amusement Park Fun

The advantage of having everyone meet us down in Santa Cruz was that we were able to visit the boardwalk.  I have so many fond memories of family trips to the 'Shore' and adventures on the boardwalk.  It was also the first time we had the chance to see how Kai would react to the rides.  His favorite was a dragon kiddie roller coaster with Daddy.  We even got to take him on the log ride, in which mommy held him tight and sacrificed her sweater so Kai would not get wet (yes, the point of the ride).

We took a day to go down to visit UC Santa Cruz for Leila.  Ahmad and I went down and the grandparents brought the kids down in the afternoon.  We made reservations at the best seafood restaurant in the area to celebrate.

Kai had his first try of clams and he LOVED them.  I think he has more Demler in him than we are prepared for... He also was treated to a kids sundae where he had some ice cream and as he told the waiter " its my favorite".

Both Kids were so well behaved and it was a long day for all.

What is in a name?

As we had done with deciding on a name for Kai, we wanted to keep to our same principles in deciding on the right name for our second baby boy (important meaningful name with the right mix inspirational meanings and people).

Fin:

• This name comes from the Persian Fin garden in Iran (Bagh-e-fin) completed in 1590 which is still open today and a UNESCO world heritage site.  We were able to visit this garden on our Iranian trip and I was so impressed that the fountains and pools were constructed without the use of mechanical pumps but thru sheer engineering design. 

Aran (Are-on):

• Aran is the name of the town Ahmad's paternal grandfather was born and we choose it as a tribute to him.

Mim and Pop

Mim and Pop (the infamous duo) flew in to spend time with Kai and Fin!  Kai has so much fun showing off his toys, dancing skills, eating techniques and belly.  Its a house full of laughter we love it too!  Thanks Mim and Pop; we miss and love you!

Uncle Chris

Uncle Chris flew in to see Fin and Kai on his way back to the east coast from a snowboarding trip in Colorado.  Kai was besides himself... saying hi to Uncle Chris and commanding his attention everywhere they went.  While his visit was just a long weekend. we were so happy to have him out with us.  Unfortunately, I will have to search for some pictures of Kai and Uncle Chris to update on this posting later... my camera only had Fin and Uncle Chris shots!

Genentech Gives Back Concert

This weekend we went to the Genentech Gives back concert at the AT&T ball park.  There was food, drinks and music.  Kai's first bands included Demi Lavato, Train, Pitbull and Radiohead.  I have to say he surpasses me in best first concert!  Don't worry family, we have earplugs for him!

Future Babysitters?

We spent the weekend with the Sadr's family.  Here the boys took turns getting to know Kai.  I can only image what 'trouble' they will all get into one day!  Its amazing how fast they grow up but Ahmad and I are sure they are fine young men to steer our boy into life!

The week was spent in Pennsylvania with Mim and Pop! It was just wonderful. We missed Ahmad but Pop made up for it just fine. We learned about White Fang and Black Tooth, had super comfy towels for bath time, perfect sleeping shoulders (Mim's) and general entertainment (Pop)... We can not wait to go back... We love you!
