Jenn's Birthday

I have to start out and share that my favorite holiday is now Kai's Birthday.  I love birthdays, I think everyone should celebrate a day for themselves and for those who do not know me… My birthday was always my favorite holiday (yup I deem birthdays holidays).

This year we celebrated by doing a around the world tour of San Francisco. First up, Tartine Bakery where the croissants are said to be better than those in France! The crowds were out and more butter than imaginable was consumed but it was a great start. Next up a drive downtown to check out Macy's Brazilian flower displays! I love spring and Macy's did not disappoint. Finally, we hit up an early bird special at Suppenkushe (my favorite German restaurant).

This morning we had a rematch... Kitty showed up strong but Kai demonstrated some new attacks, such as a side bend and now he is throwing hooks!  Check out the action!

Maman Shokooh Comes to Visit

Yesterday we went to the airport to pick up Maman Shokooh!  She arrived on KLM from Tehran via Amsterdam.  It was a very long and interesting flight.  Kai, Ahmad and I are so excited to have her here in San Francisco!

Animal House goes to Wine Country

This weekend the weather was forecasted to be miserable.... So the animal house took itself to wine country!  We only hit up two wineries (Darioush and Pine Ridge).   We had the perfect excuse to start birthday celebrations early too... we had to pick up wines at Pine Ridge.

Kai enjoyed Darioush much more than Pine Ridge.  I think I did too, he has such a experienced pallet already!

Happy New Year!

This time we are celebrating Nourooz.  We broke out some Darioush wine and read some Hafez.  We wish everyone a great, prosperous New Year!

St. Patricks Day

This weekend we celebrated St. Patty's Day with a dinner party at our friends home.  The Deignans spent the week making from scratching corned beef and accompanying that with a grand ol'feast as only they are known to do!  (Those that know us and our cooking abilities, the Deignans put us to shame).

We brought Kai along with us, where he met his first baby, Elena.  It was amazing to see how big Elena has grown at 6months of age.  While it is exciting to see she is able to sit up and eating foods, it just reminds us of how fast time will fly.

We arrived at 5pm and both kiddos were in bed by 7pm.  Kai found the most spectacular spot in the house... nuzzled up on the master bed.   I wanted to go to bed with him.  He slept like a dream and transitioned from their to home without an issue!

We wanted to capture him finishing off the Bushmills Whiskey but somehow that picture escaped us.

Lunch time!

We have been getting more adventurous.  Over the last week we have met up with some friends for lunch.  Earlier in the week we drove down to meet Ahmad at work and to go out to eat with Racho who was in San Francisco briefly.  Kai once again slept thru the entire meal.

We then met up with Emily on Thursday, where Kai woke just enough to show off his master killer man skills.  It has been great to get out and enjoy the fabulous weather around town.

Finally, yesterday we drove in again to work and picked up Ahmad for Lunch.  This time, we made a stop in at the office.  This was Kai's first major tour!  We hope to have many more in the weeks and months ahead!  

One Month Pediatrician visit

On Monday, we were scheduled for Kai's 1 month pediatrician visit.  The little man was brave and did not spray the nurse or I, however, he did go thru 3 diapers before the Dr came in to see him.  I took that as he will work with me to cooperate but he does not have to like it there!

The little boy is growing fast, his new statistics are:

• Weight: 12lbs 3ozs (a whole 3lb gain in 2 weeks) - Ahmad wishes he could do that!
• Head Size: 40.5cm
• Height: 23"

Kai also received his second HepB vaccination.  Next month, he'll get a whole lot more and I am definitely bringing Ahmad!

Ahmad's Birthday

This weekend we celebrated another birthday, this time it was Ahmad's.  We certainly have a busy first quarter!

Being that we have a newborn, the typical celebrations are no longer applicable, but that did not stop us from Celebrating.  We bought some birthday streamers and decorated the house, as well as making a feast!  Ahmad requested candles in his shrimp vs. in his cake... and while this may have been a joke... ask and you shall receive!

Yes, we found a way to put candles in a bowl of giant shrimp!

Happy 1 month Birthday!!

Yesterday was Kai's 1 month Birthday. He celebrated it with a growth spurt... while that sounds great, it was not terribly fun for the little guy. He seems to be back to his chipper self today. Time flies!

Whose toy is this anyway?

Nanni gave Kai a playmat to help him work on his developmental skills. Of course, we consider him naturally advanced in all 1 month old activities.

What are those activities?
1. Being adorable
2. Irresistible and likely to being eaten
3. The ability to lifting ones head

You know major milestones!

Anyhow, Kai enjoys staring at the bright colors and hearing the squeaks and rattles of the toys. He has advanced to kicking and batting but this is said to be mer reflexes. Either way, he definitely enjoys his time interacting with various stimuli... See super advance! ;)

He also is practicing his kung fu kicks which at the current time is not a strong enough deterrent for the resident wildlife here in this animal house, as demonstrated in the video below.  This early interaction will be a precursor to future negotiations for sharing toys.  After all, sharing is caring!

Sophistication

The new morning routine includes breakfast followed by listening to music and reading to allow for proper digestion!  During this time Kai has shown a preference to listen to Bach over Vivaldi or Haydn.  His favorite so far is the first two movements of the Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 in F major.  He feels this goes perfectly with reading about ferocious animals... in black and white of course!
